ELTA systems, a subsidiary of IAI Awarded a Large Scale Contract to Supply Perimeter Protection Radars

ELTA Systems, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), was awarded a contract by a significant customer in South East Asia to supply its newest version of the ELM-2114 family of Perimeter Protection Radars. The radars are to be installed around the perimeter of critical military assets throughout the country to protect against potential intrusions.  The project involves different independent security layers with the radar being the longest range detection layer. This provides sufficient alert time for the security detail to respond. It was also crucial for the radar frequency not to interfere with other frequency bands being used on the base.

To meet the requirements, ELTA proposed the new ELM-2114 V1K. The new version provides 100% increased detection range over the previous version ELM-2114 V05, reaching detection range capabilities of up to 1,000 meters for a moving person and up to 2,000 meters for moving vehicles. The ELM-2114 family of radars features simultaneous multibeam solid-state FMCW technology, also known as “Staring” radar technology, wherein the radar provides persistent coverage compared to rotating radars. The solution is compact, easy to deploy and operate, can seamlessly integrate to the customer’s established surveillance system, and operates in a commercial unlicensed frequency ISM band (24GHz, K-band).

The radar provides persistent surveillance and instantaneous target tracking over the entire Region of Interest (ROI), even in adverse weather conditions. The radar installation includes intelligent algorithms that can detect different types of movement to keep false alarm rates low. The lightweight radar, only weighing around 2 Kg, is equipped with a stationary (non-rotating) planar array covering a sector of 90°, and with a single Power over Ethernet (PoE) connector resulting in low operating costs and easy installation.

Yoav Tourgeman, IAI VP and CEO of ELTA, said, “After rigorous evaluation, our customer selected the ELM-2114 V1K because it not only met their requirements but surpassed them. We are seeing and responding to a growing demand for cost-effective unlicensed frequency band radars not just for the military sector but for governmental and private sectors as well. ELTA is dedicated to constantly improve our technologies in order to provide our customers with the most advanced surveillance and protection capabilities.”
