SeoulWith a financial contribution from the Government of Japan, UNOPS has procured 12 police vehicles, in order to strengthen the operational capacity of the local police forces.

His Excellency Mr. Ambassador Orikasa, Ambassador of Japan to Palau, said: “The police vehicles provided by Japan in cooperation with UNOPS and the Government of Palau are a fitting outcome of the Our Ocean Conference. The Government and the People of Japan would like to see the smiling face of the people of Palau using them for many years to come. “

Mr Kirk Bayabos, UNOPS NYSC SDC Head of Cluster, said: “UNOPS is very proud of the support to Our Ocean Conference, knowing that the Conference represents a key milestone for Palau and other Countries most affected by the consequences of climate change.”

The delivery of police vehicles is part of a broader effort of the Government of Japan and UNOPS to support the Government of Palau to host the Our Ocean Conference.

The Conference was a key moment for countries, civil society, and industry to commit to concrete and significant actions to protect the ocean. This year’s Conference closed with 410 commitments worth $16.35 billion across the six issue areas of the conference. Since 2014, the Our Ocean Conference has now mobilized more than 1,800 commitments worth approximately $108 billion.

The conference has represented a great achievement for the Government of Palau and its people.

The Government of Palau welcomes this donation that will help to improve the security and of the people of Palau.
