Hanwha Defence, a leading South Korean defence company, has seen significant growth in its export markets. Some of its key recent export deals include:
1. K9 Thunder Howitzers: These have been a major export success, with Poland ordering 212 K9A1 self-propelled howitzers in 2022. The first batch was delivered in record time, with production facilities planned for Poland by 2026. Other customers include Australia, Egypt, Norway, Finland, and Turkey, expanding the K9’s global presence.
2. K239 Chunmoo Rocket Launchers: Hanwha is also exporting its K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers. Poland has been a prominent buyer, and a new rocket production facility is being established in Poland in collaboration with WB Group, enhancing local autonomy in artillery production.
3. Air Defense Systems: Hanwha has been involved in major contracts like the KM-SAM air defence system to the UAE, which contributed to South Korea’s rapid rise in global defence exports. Additionally, Saudi Arabia has procured advanced radars from Hanwha Systems for its air defence needs.
These deals reflect Hanwha’s strategic focus on expanding in Europe, the Middle East, and Australia, leveraging South Korea’s reputation for reliable, high-tech, and cost-effective defence products. The company is also positioning itself to support local production in key markets, such as Poland and Australia, to secure long-term partnerships and increase its global footprint.
