Less than ten days after the official launch of Leonardo’s Michelangelo Security Dome, the advanced integrated defence system, the company has demonstrated its cutting-edge capabilities in Radar Sensor technology for Air and Missile Defence, a core component of the Italian Dome.

On 3 December 2025, Leonardo conducted the first qualification launch for the Italian SAMP/T NG Surface-to-Air Missile, equipped with the company’s latest-generation KRONOS Grand Mobile High Power Radar Sensor.

The radar, featuring a multifunction AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) architecture and advanced technologies, successfully tracked the threat and guided the missile to an interception at a distance unprecedented for the Eurosam SAMP/T system during land trials.

This performance confirms the KRONOS Grand Mobile High Power Radar as Europe’s best-in-class radar sensor for air and missile defence systems.

The achievement complements previous successes in international Integrated Air and Missile Defence exercises—including Formidable Shield and Pacific Dragon—as well as ground-based SAM system live trials.

Leonardo’s results highlight the robustness of the Michelangelo Security Dome, which, thanks to its dynamic and open architecture, is poised to lead the integration of European air and missile defence systems.
