The Bundeswehr has placed a significant order with Rheinmetall to deliver over 1,000 logistic vehicles, with a total value of approximately €770 million gross. The order consists of:
963 vehicles with swap-body systems, some equipped with protected driver cabins, including flatbeds and tarpaulin-arch superstructures
425 unprotected transport vehicles (UTVs) in both 4×4 and 8×8 variants
According to André Barthel, Chairman of the Board of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH (RMMV):
“As a reliable partner of the Bundeswehr, we are delighted to be delivering additional vehicles and thus contributing to the mobility and operational readiness of the armed forces.”
The vehicles are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2025, with the order booked in the third quarter of 2025.
Largest Logistics Vehicle Order in Rheinmetall History
This delivery is part of a framework contract signed in July 2024, marking the largest logistics vehicle order in Rheinmetall’s history. The contract allows for:
Delivery of up to 6,500 vehicles
A total potential value of up to €3.5 billion
Flexible Bundeswehr procurement over seven years
Inclusion of the new UTV 3.5t (4×4) variant, which shares common components with the rest of the UTV family
Proven Performance of HX and UTV Vehicle Families
The UTV family has been a cornerstone of Bundeswehr logistics since 2017, when the armed forces first commissioned RMMV to deliver cargo load class 5t and 15t vehicles.
Since then, Rheinmetall has delivered:
Around 7,000 HX vehicles to the Bundeswehr
A range of systems including swap-bodies and 70-tonne semi-trailer trucks
These vehicles are based on RMMV’s HX family, known for their military-grade durability, off-road capability, and modular adaptability.
Global Deployment of HX Vehicle Family
The HX vehicle family is deployed globally, ensuring interoperability and logistical efficiency in multinational operations. Current users include:
Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Singapore, Slovenia, Denmark, and Ukraine
With over 20,000 HX vehicles in use worldwide, this new order further reinforces Rheinmetall’s position as a leader in military logistics.
