IP25 Digital 728x90px x2 250627 01Elbit Systems Ltd has been awarded a contract valued at approximately USD $260 million by Airbus Defence and Space to supply its J-MUSIC™ Directed Infrared Counter Measures (DIRCM) systems for the German Air Force’s A400M transport aircraft fleet. The six-year contract follows a procurement decision by Germany’s Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Operations of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw).

Part of the MUSIC™ family of airborne self-protection systems, J-MUSIC™ is designed to shield aircraft from infrared-guided missiles, especially those fired from man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS). The system combines cutting-edge laser technology with advanced imaging to detect, track and neutralise incoming threats autonomously—without crew involvement.

Its modular, scalable design allows seamless integration with diverse aircraft platforms and missile warning systems. The compact system ensures minimal impact on aircraft payload and performance.

Elbit Systems’ DIRCM solutions are in operational use worldwide, fitted to both military and commercial aircraft. Customers include the air forces of Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Italy, and Brazil, and the system is a preferred solution for multiple aircraft OEMs for both new builds and retrofits.

Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, President and CEO of Elbit Systems, stated:

“This contract further strengthens Elbit Systems’ position as a global leader in DIRCM technology. We are proud to support Germany in safeguarding its A400M fleet, and value our ongoing collaboration with Airbus DS.”
