Saab to deliver additional RBS 70 systems to an undisclosed customer
Saab has secured a contract to supply Robotsystem (RBS) 70 very-short-range air defence systems (VSHORAD) to an undisclosed customer.
Under the Skr270m ($32.6m) contract, the Swedish defence and security company will supply an unspecified number of RBS 70 missiles, as well as additional equipment and training.
Saab Dynamics business area head Görgen Johansson said: “One of our customers of the RBS 70 system has placed an additional order to achieve added capacity of its forces.
“This order demonstrates the reliability of the RBS 70 system, as well as the high-quality of our manufacturing and support capabilities.
“The RBS 70 is a modern system with a long lifespan. An increasing number of customers are discovering its flexible design, which allows for the system to be continuously upgraded.”

Originally designed and manufactured by Saab Bofors Dynamics, the RBS 70 is a man-portable air-defence system designed for anti-aircraft warfare and for protection of mobile units in all climate zones.
The basic RBS 70 comprises a tripod firing stand, optical sight, and the missile in a launch container, which can be operated independently in stand-alone mode or can be configured with several firing units linked with a surveillance radar to form an anti-aircraft battery.
To date, Saab has delivered 1,600 launchers and more than 17,000 missiles to 19 countries.
Deliveries under the contract are scheduled to take place between 2015 and 2016. The company did not disclose the customer’s identity and additional contract details citing a confidentiality agreement with the customer.
