SA26 EXProm 728x90 Find out more todayThales and Universal Communication Systems Co. Ltd have signed a contract to deliver a new Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) for the Royal Thai Navy’s 28-year-old aircraft carrier HTMS Chakri Naruebet.

The IPMS will act as the central operational system for the vessel, improving operational effectiveness, safety and crew awareness. Thales’ longstanding relationship with the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) spans more than 55 years, with over 80% of the fleet featuring Thales systems. As maritime threats continue to evolve, naval platforms must adapt quickly to meet new operational demands. Increased automation enhances decision support, enables rapid response, and ensures safe, secure platform operations.

The modern IPMS integrates seamlessly with combat systems, navigation, training simulators and shipboard hardware. Its real-time monitoring, automation and intuitive interface will significantly modernise the ship’s infrastructure, allowing the RTN to control mechanical, electrical and damage-control systems from a single platform. The scalable design will be tailored to the carrier’s unique requirements and substantial size. HTMS Chakri Naruebet remains the RTN’s flagship and Southeast Asia’s first and only aircraft carrier.

Thales will provide the system’s hardware and software alongside an international team of specialists, while UCS contributes its local expertise and understanding of end-user requirements. The collaboration includes a strong focus on expanding in-country maintenance capability, reinforcing Thailand’s defence industrial base and enhancing long-term self-reliance. This new contract marks the RTN’s first adoption of an IPMS solution.

Supich ANSVANANDA, Managing Director of UCS, said the comprehensive technology transfer will equip UCS to deliver effective in-country support throughout the system’s lifecycle.

Nicolas BERNARDIN, Country Director, Thales in Thailand, noted that modernising the RTN’s flagship is a significant undertaking, and highlighted the IPMS as a key enhancer of Thailand’s maritime sovereignty and the latest milestone in Thales’ partnership with UCS.
