Poland has chosen the Swedish government’s offer of Saab A26 submarines to replace its ageing Kilo-class fleet. While the decision marks a major step forward, Saab has not yet signed a contract or received an official order.
The Swedish proposal features advanced A26 submarines equipped with cutting-edge technologies and innovations. It also includes industrial collaboration and knowledge transfer to Poland, strengthening long-term defence cooperation between the two nations.
Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, welcomed the decision: “We are honored to have been selected and look forward to the coming negotiations with the Armaments Agency in Poland. The Swedish offer, featuring submarines tailored for the Baltic Sea, is the right choice for the Polish people. It will significantly enhance the operational capability of the Polish Navy and benefit the Polish economy.”
Saab and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) will now work with Polish authorities through the next stages of the procurement process.
